All The Wrong Places

I came across a quote from Dr. David Wells of Gordon Conwell Seminary that I believe is worth your thoughtful contemplation.

In a psychological world, we want therapy; in a moral world, a world of right and wrong and good and evil, we want redemption. In a psychological world, we want to be happy. In a moral world, we want to be holy. In the one, we want to feel good, but in the other we want to be good”

Our culture walks in darkness as the Apostle Paul expresses it in Ephesians and is looking for “happiness” and “fulfillment” in all the wrong places. Yet the answers to the ultimate questions of life are not found in us or in the world; they are found only in Jesus Christ. His exact words are “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

The wisdom and counsel of the world only leads to disillusionment and despair. There is no peace in a life lived apart from God. The philosopher Blaise Pascal put it this way, “There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.”
