If you were surprised that the title song in the movie “Alone Yet Not Alone”, (which was sung by Joni Eareckson Tada), was nominated for an Oscar, you will not be surprised that the nominating committee has had second thoughts and rescinded the nomination.
I know it seems a little like a soap opera, but such is life in the politically correct world of the liberals. We really shouldn’t be surprised by this sudden change of heart. Clearly, someone of influence and clear vision had a talk with the members of the committee.
As you would expect, Joni took it all in stride. In fact, she continues to come out ahead handling the whole thing with grace and Christian character stating, “This Oscar was never mine to earn or to lose, that honor falls with … the songwriters. Which is why I’m mainly disappointed for their sakes.”
There are some who, like the Pharisees, “love the praise of men more than the praise of God.” Joni is not one of those and I pray that you are not as well.
The admonition of the Apostle Paul to the believers in Corinth, is helpful to us in such circumstances:
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God.
We should keep the eternal judgment of God in mind, not the temporal and fallen judgment of our culture. We should long for our Savior and King to someday say to us, “well done, you good and faithful servant.”
