This Christmas I got a new Bible. It is a Schuyler NKJV Bible and the nicest Bible I have ever owned. It is beautifully made, with readable type, footnotes at the bottom of the page, and a cream paper that is easy on the eyes. If you are looking for a Bible for yourself or your family, I would highly recommend this one.
One comment on modern versions and the reason that I and Bethel use the NKJV. It is the most consistently accurate translation, both in faithfulness to the Greek text itself and in maintaining the original, Greek word order. A good second would be the New American Standard Version, although I think it is far less readable.
There is a trend toward reading electronic versions and there are reasons to do so, but, everyone should have a quality Bible that you can use in worship and Bible study. I would encourage you to markup your Bible with notes and highlights. I use three, colored pencils, (I get them from Hobby Lobby, Art, $1.49), a red for general highlighting, a blue for passages touching on God’s sovereignty, (for example Daniel 4:35), and a green pencil for verses useful in evangelism, (like Romans 3:23). I use a Micron 01 with archival ink to make notes. None of these will smear.
Finally, New Years is a good time to start reading your Bible every day. It does no good to have a beautiful Bible sitting on your coffee table, it must be read to be of value. If you simply read two or three chapters a day you will come close to reading through the whole Bible this year. Think of what the Lord could teach you if you did that!
The Bible is not just another book. It is the very word of God. It is Truth given to you to read, study, and memorize. Get started today.
